The innovative design of this hospital scheme required the use of unusual materials, creating a bright, modern look without compromising the practical access issues associated with any hospital. The flowing curves and gentle sloping of the green rubber surface allows easy use of wheelchairs. The decked seating areas seem to fuse with the walkway, again making access as easy as possible. The concept looks very attractive from above, designed especially as a pleasing view for those people who are unable to leave the wards easily. Colourful trellis work was used in some areas to conceal metres of ugly cabling.
